Film Selection: Pinaglabanan by Tudla Productions

Documentary | 43 minutes

SYNOPSIS

In 2010, the residents of Corazon de Jesus were again demolished from their homes to give way to the construction of a new, lavish city hall of San Juan City. For three decades, the public land has changed ownership between the people and the local government, depending on who is on the seat of power in the national government. Asserting their right to home, life and in pursuit of dignity, the people put up their barricade against the demolition in January 2011.

The historic Pinaglabanan (Battlefield), where the first skirmish of the 1896 Philippine Revolution against the Spanish colonizers took place, stands witness to a new, continuing battle.

FILMMAKER

Tudla Productions is an alternative, non-profit group of filmmakers, students and cultural workers that utilizes different media in drawing attention to the plight and struggle of marginalized sectors in the urban center and to issues of national significance.
