The fight to free all political prisoners in the Philippines today remains significant although unpopular with the general public at the moment. “AKTIBISTA” is a documentary that tells a story of a Filipino activist who was arrested and tortured during the Arroyo regime.

Karen Gutierrez is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication minor in Broadcast Journalism in St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. She is presently pursuing her passion – filmmaking – through joining and winning in video competitions and film festivals. She started writing, producing and directing plays and film productions when she was 17 years old. Most of her works deal with social values such as justice, truth, equity and issues of women and the marginalized. Aside from filmmaking, she also loves performing. Some of her talents are acting, singing, modeling, hosting and dancing.
